The Basics

How does it all work?
The best way to get started is by following the 3 easy steps described below.
1. Create a Profile. This allows other members to find you.

2. Search other Members. You find other members by doing a search. An advanced search allows you to be quite specific about the kind of person you’d like to meet. You can also save your advanced searches.

3. Begin Contacting. When you find members that catch your eye, strike up a conversation through a friendly email, a live online chat, or by sending a smile.

Don’t forget! Updating your profile regularly and including a photo of yourself will be the best way to make sure the right person can find you.

How long will it take for my profile to be approved?
Although most new profiles and updated profiles are approved within 24 hours, please allow up to 72 hours for your profile to be approved.

Will anyone be able to find out who I am if I don't want them to?
Other people will only have access to the information that you make available through your profile or through your communication with them. If you wish to remain anonymous then you should omit personal details in your profile.

What do I have to pay for?
You can create a profile and search other members for free. Sending smiles and other automated messages, such as photo and information requests are also free. As well, you may always receive and reply to personalized messages from paid members for free too, but if you want to initiate a personalized message with another member, you will need to upgrade your account by purchasing a subscription. You can upgrade your account from the My Account page, and clicking on Account Status. Click
here to upgrade your account now.

How much does membership cost?
At TwoMuslims.com we offer a few packages for our members to choose from. Our starting membership costs $19.99 for 3 months of unlimited contact with other members.
Click here to upgrade your membership by visiting your My Account Status menu area.

Can I pay by cheque if I prefer not to use a credit card?
Yes, you may pay by cheque, money order or bank drafts in either Canadian or U.S. dollars. All mail payments should be made payable to Two Muslims Inc. and sent to the following address along with your username:

Two Muslims Inc.
P.O. Box #47662
939 Lawrence Ave. E.
Toronto, ON
M3C 3S7
Canada

For Canadian payments, please use the following exchange rates: $19.99 USD = $25 CAD, $34.99 USD = $43 CAD, $59.99 CAD = $73 CAD.

Your Profile

What should I write in my profile?
Often, the hardest part of creating your profile is describing yourself to others. So, here are a few suggestions for getting started:

Be honest. Honesty is taken seriously at Two Muslims and it's the single most important thing to remember when writing a great profile. It's much easier to write about yourself if you are honest about who you are. It prevents you from having to guess at what you think other people want to read.

Show you’re unique. Think about how you're different. What gives you your unique character? If your friends were describing you, what would be the three things they would all say about you? These are good questions to ask yourself as you get ready to write your profile.

Show, don't tell: The best profiles show, rather than tell, who you are at your best. If you are known for being funny, try explaining how or why you are funny - such as, "I've been known to do a great air guitar solo", instead of "I have a good sense of humor." Paint a picture in their minds of the kind of person you are.

Be open. Write your profile like you are talking to someone that you have already met a few times before. You would probably be open about your likes and dislikes but may avoid mentioning past relationships or other private topics.

Do include a photo: Your smile, the background that you're photographed in, what you're wearing, they all paint a picture of what you're truly like. And including a recent photo will get you 10 times the attention. Having a photo will also make others more likely to share their photo with you.

Remember what your English teacher said. Check your profile for typos and spelling mistakes before you submit it. Show you spent time thinking about and writing your profile.

Update your profile. Keep your profile fresh. Every now and then, go back to your profile and update it to let people know you're still out there.

How do I write a great headline?
Your profile headline is your chance to quickly tell other Two Muslims members who you are, what you're looking for, or why you'd be great for them. Your headline is the first thing people will read about you - so it's important to spend some time thinking about how you want to come across to others. Here are a few tips for writing a great headline:

Be original. Stay away from over-used, generic headlines such as "I'm the One" or "Looking for Love".

Be you. What makes you unique? Your headline should play up the parts of your personality that give you character. Be honest about what you like about yourself. Think about compliments you've received from friends and how they would describe you to others.

"Smart, easy-going, and adventurous" is clear and to the point.

"I pray 5 times a day" – tells you that this person is religious and may be looking for the same.

Be concise. The best headlines are 3 - 6 words long and send a message that others can quickly and clearly understand.

Be clear. It pays to be clever, but you don't want to lose or confuse people with headlines that assume a certain sense of humor or make references to obscure books, movies, or events. Save chats about obscure topics for your first email or a face to face conversation.

Be positive. Stay away from using words that set you in a negative or pessimistic light, like "Lonely" "Desperate", and "Discouraged". Even if you are feeling this way, most people aren't looking for people who are lonely, desperate, or discouraged.

Be fresh. It's a good idea to update your headline every once in a while to show people you're still out there - and to see if you get more or less attention depending on the message your headline is sending.

Can I see some samples of what to write?

Copying of these sample narratives is prohibited. They are only provided here to give you an idea of what others include within their profiles.

About Myself
Sample 1: Hi! I’m a second year biology student at McMaster University and when I’m not busy studying (at the last minute of course) for tests then I’m usually out with friends having a coffee or going to the movies. Most weekends I go home to visit my family in Toronto and spend time with my younger brother and sister. The Matrix reloaded is one of my favorite all-time movies, so let me know if you like sci-fi/action flicks!

Sample 2: Bonjour! I guess if I had to say something interesting about myself, it would be my love of Halloween. It is my favorite holiday of the year. Last year, my friends and I threw an 80’s style party and pulled out the good old fluorescent t-shirts and acid-washed jeans as we danced the night away listening to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper. That’s my idea of a good time!

Sample 3: I’m the kind of guy that you will want to bring home! I’m well educated, come from a good family, and I’m not that bad looking (so my mom says at least) lol :) Although I’m a lawyer I don’t let my work life consume me and have purposely found work that’s only 9-5 which means I have plenty of time for spending with someone special. I would like to meet someone that enjoys fine dining. I’m very picky about good food and only like to eat at the best restaurants. Some of my favorite restaurants include North44, By Mark and LaMaquette.

What are you looking for?
Sample 4: I’m looking for the kind of guy that will know how to put a smile on my face because he has such a great sense of humor. To me a great sense of humor means that he can find the irony or sillyness in any situation, not that he uses sarcasm or makes jokes at someone else’s expense. Handsome would be a bonus, but it’s much more important that he’s the kind of guy that can carry on a conversation with my mom and sister without having to talk about sports or cars. Last but not least, I’m looking for the guy that would leave work early to take his daughter home from school if she was really sick. Basically---a family man you could say! If that sounds like you then drop me a line.

Sample 5: I’m just looking to make some new friends. I’ve just moved to the USA from Lebanon and I’m wondering if there are any friendly, young Lebanese people in Houston to show me around? I am going to be attending the University of Texas this year and it would be great to meet people who live in the area. I like playing soccer and basketball and would love to join a team in the city.

Sample 6: I would prefer to meet a woman between the ages of 20-26 that is of East Indian or Pakistani origin. I like women that are confident of themselves and don’t ask that dreaded question: “Do I look fat?” Most women are more beautiful then they realise and I wouldn’t mind a girl that already knows that! She should have an opinion and be willing to travel around the world with me. I’ve been to India, Europe, and the Caribbean but would like someone who would be willing to do an African safari with me.

How do I choose a great photo?
A recent and honest picture of yourself is probably the most important part of your profile. And research has shown that members who include a photo with their profile get 10 times the attention! Here are some pointers on how to select a photo that will stand out from the rest:

Honestly you. An honest picture of yourself will draw the right people to you. Whether it's your smile, the background you are photographed in, what you are wearing - your photo should show who you are now.

The best pictures are ones that really look like who you are today - and not what you looked like 10 years ago at your high school graduation.

So, choose a recent, true-to-life photo of yourself that captures your unique spirit. It will keep you from having to own up later to a photo that isn't you or that shows you at a different time in your life.

Go solo. Your primary photo should feature YOU (not you with a group of friends). Save pictures of you with your family or dog for other photos in your gallery.

Face shot. Make sure the picture you choose for your primary photo is large enough to see your face. A picture of a miniature you scaling a rock face, may do a good job of showing your adventurous side, but it isn't the best choice to include with your profile. A close-up works much better.

Lighting. Photos taken outdoors, with natural lighting are often the best quality. Also, try taking or selecting a black and white photo, as they tend to be more flattering and less common than color photos—so you’ll stand out more.

Au Natural. A posed shot is great, but a candid photo usually captures the more genuine you.

Keep your photo fresh. New haircut? A great tan? Updating your photo once in a while keeps your profile fresh and lets people know you are still out there.

Searching

How can I get more responses?
The quickest way to get more responses to your profile is by adding a photo. A photo will give your profile a human face and will help attract the right people to you. If you already have a photo in your profile you should ensure that your profile is complete and that you have taken the time to write something unique in your narratives. If you are having trouble writing, you should read the expert advice included here in the “Your Profile” section. Another tip is that by updating your profile regularly, you will move your profile up in the search results.

What is the best way to find my ideal match?
The best way to find your ideal match is by doing an Advanced Search. An Advanced Search allows you to be quite specific about the traits that you are looking for. You should also use the values match percentages to help guide you to members that are better suited to you. It is also important to make sure that your profile is complete and updated regularly so that your ideal match has a good chance of finding you!

What is the difference between a "Recently Updated" search and a "Creation Date" search?
When you order your search results in order of the most recently updated, you will see both new members and members that have recently updated their profile. In contrast, when you order your search results by Creation Date, you will only see the newest members that have joined.

Contacting

How do I contact a TwoMuslims.com member?
You can contact another member by clicking on the “Send a Message” button that is displayed on a search results page or on the member's profile. Clicking on that button will take you to a new page where you will be able to write a message to that member which will be sent by internal email.

When I contact another member is my email address included in the message?
No. When you contact another member through the 'Send a Message' service your message will be sent via internal email and the recipient will only be able to see your profile.

Why can I only send 10 messages per day?
All members are limited to making contact with 10 members a day. This is to protect you from fraud, spam, and people that are not truly interested in you personally. The limit of 10 messages does not include replies to the same member.

How will I know when I have a new message or when someone has replied to me?
When you receive a message in your TwoMuslims.com Mailbox, a notification message will be sent to the email address that you registered with. Please ensure that your email address on file is an account that you use regularly and that has space available to receive new messages.
Click here to verify the email address you registered with.

What should I write when I send a message to another member for the first time?
1. Start with a compliment. Ask yourself, what intrigued you in this person’s profile? Find out what it is that has interested you in them and let them know about it.

2. Make it unique. It is a must to send a personalized message to each person that you contact because people can tell if your message seems generic. Trust me! That will leave them feeling like you’re not really interested in them, but rather that you’re interested in just anybody and makes your chances of being replied to a whole lot slimmer.

3. Keep it short. In your first message to another member, you really should just be trying to say hello and find out if they would potentially be interested in you, so don’t overwhelm them with your life story or resume. Also, when you write a message that is too long, some people may feel that they have to write something lengthy in return and may put it off replying if they don’t have the time.

4. Don’t rewrite your profile. Avoid telling other people all the information that they can quickly and easily see in your profile. You might want to highlight the important stuff, but don’t tell all the details over again.

5. Ask a question. Asking each other questions will help you get to know each other better and can easily spark some dialogue. It also lets the other person know that you would like a reply.

6. Don’t get personal. If this is your first message to someone you shouldn’t be asking for personal details. Only ask for a phone number or other personal details once you have built-up a certain level of trust.

What does it mean to send or receive a smile?
The smile service is a free way of letting other members know that you would like to get to know them better. If they like, they can send a smile back to you for free or if they are a paid member they can send you a message. Either way, it's an easy way of starting a conversation with other members. Keep in mind that in order to initiate text messaging or personalized messages, one of you will need to be a paid member.

When should I send a smile?
The right time to send a smile is when you find a member that intrigues you--it may be something that they wrote in their profile, a message they posted in the discussion forum, or the great smile they have in their photo! Whichever way you look at it, smiles are a great way of telling other members that you’d like to get to know more about them. If you are a paid member, it is always best to send a personalized message as the recipient is more likely to reply.
